The Last Small Farm
The Last Small Farm is about more than just growing food—it’s about cultivating a life of purpose, grit, and freedom. It’s about waking up every day, putting in the work, and knowing that what you do matters. I’m a fifth-generation farmer from Nebraska who found my way to Kodiak, Alaska 20 years ago. With nothing but determination, I built a Grade A certified goat dairy and a small farm that produces beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and raw milk products. Life on the island has been an adventure—demanding, unpredictable, and rewarding. But growing up on a Midwest farm taught me that the best things in life come through hard work and showing up every day, no matter the obstacles. I share my journey—the struggles, the triumphs, and the lessons learned along the way. Whether it’s breaking free from the modern grind, reconnecting with real food, or finding fulfillment in the everyday work of life, I invite others to see the possibilities in their own lives. I believe in dreaming big, working hard, and embracing the kind of challenges that build character and resilience. Hard work isn’t something to escape—it’s the key to real freedom. When you take control of your food, your time, and your purpose, life becomes more fulfilling. My story isn’t just about farming; it’s about the mindset that turns dreams into reality. Whether you're looking for inspiration to take the next step in your own journey or searching for a deeper connection to the land, the work, and yourself, I’m here to show you that it’s possible. If you're ready to step out of the comfort zone, embrace the work, and start building the life you want, let’s connect. Whether it’s through a conversation, an event, or simply following along on this journey, I invite you to be part of the movement. Family is a priority, and providing them with a healthy version of ourselves and access to real food is essential. Living a life of purpose and freedom filled with creativity leads to something greater. Challenging the norm and advocating for whole, natural foods improves physical and mental well-being. Hard work matters. Showing up every day to 'put your overalls and gloves on' is how change happens. Work gives us purpose, especially when something living depends on us. The value of hard work and purpose can be taught at any stage of life, to any age. Being the G.O.A.T.: Grit, Opportunity, Adaptability, and Tenacity Starting a Grade A certified dairy in Kodiak, Alaska. Moving a herd of cattle to free-range on an uninhabited island. Making goat milk ice cream from scratch. Learning to be my own vet. None of it came with a manual, but I’ve learned that success isn’t about knowing everything—it’s about being willing to try, ask for help, and figure it out as you go. My childhood, filled with adventure and hard-earned lessons, shaped me into the person who wasn’t afraid to take risks and build a life outside the norm. In this talk, I’ll share the wild stories, the hard-earned wisdom, and the mindset shifts that make anything possible. Whether you’re chasing a dream, starting something new, or just need the push to do things differently, let this be the sign—you’re capable of more than you think. Raising Grit: Letting Kids Take Risks, Work Hard, and Grow Strong In a world that preaches safety, structure, and constant supervision, I chose a different path—one that mirrored my own upbringing as a free-range farm kid. Raising boys to be strong, capable men means letting them take risks, dare greatly, and do hard things. But in today’s culture, that’s easier said than done. In this talk, I’ll share the challenges and pushback I’ve faced in parenting, how I’ve taught my boys to embrace independence, and why working with their hands—whether through farm chores, shooting, or real responsibility—shapes their character. I’ll offer practical advice on how to let kids do dangerous things safely, work through failures, and grow into confident, resilient adults. Whether you're a farm family or just someone who believes kids need more dirt, danger, and determination, this talk will challenge and inspire you.
