Raising Grayce Farm

We are the Browns: Will, Natalie and Graylyn. In 2018, we had a desire to move away from neighborhood life and into the country. We spent over a year searching for land. Our farm came up for sale and after multiple offers, a lot of help from some great realtors and many prayers the sellers chose our offer and the story of our farm began. Our property includes about 8 acres of open land (recently added 15 acres of leased pasture land for raising beef cows), almost 8 acres of woods and a small brick ranch. We spent the first year we owned it remodeling the house and trying to figure out what to do with the land. Will is from the western part of North Carolina, a very small town in Stokes County called Pine Hall. He grew up on his family’s land spending as much time outside as possible. He helped his family grow sweet corn, tobacco and many garden vegetables. Will’s grandparents had a small roadside stand to share some of their crops with the local community. His Grandma Brown had a love for plants and shared flowers with her family and loved ones as often as possible. Natalie grew up here, in Greenville, NC but has roots that span across eastern, NC. Her father’s father was the County Extension Director for Sampson County and helped farmers all across the county. Her uncle has grown and developed plants as a nursery manager for several nurseries in eastern NC. Natalie’s father started and continues to manage his own landscaping and lawncare business in Greenville. Her mother’s father loved growing cantaloupes and watermelons in his garden in Edenton, NC to share with family and friends. Our families instilled in us a passion for farming and agriculture and sharing the fruits of our land and labor with others. Our interest in agriculture grew as we earned our degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering. When our daughter, Graylyn, was born we wanted her to have the opportunity to learn about farming as well as fully experience the outdoors. The “Gray” in our farm’s name is for her. Grace has multiple meanings. Socially, it means being kind, polite, and thoughtful and having courteous goodwill. Spiritually it means God’s favor, peace or help, whether we deserve or not. We believe that our piece of land is ours because of God’s grace and it has a purpose. While flowers are the main crop our farm will grow, we also hope to cultivate a sense of community.
